Biography

Marc Boehm earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Trombone Performance from The Juilliard School in New York City. While at Juilliard, Mr. Boehm studied with Joseph Alessi, principal trombonist of the New York Philharmonic. During his undergraduate studies, Marc held a position with the orchestra Symphony in C, one of only a few professional training orchestras in the United States. While living in New York City, Marc also maintained an active freelance schedule, regularly performing with orchestras in Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Avery Fisher Hall (now David Geffen Hall). After graduating, Marc went on to study at Manhattan School of Music under the direction of Dr. Per Brevig, former principal trombonist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Marc earned his Master of Music degree with special distinction as an Outreach Graduation Award recipient for his work teaching trombone in New York City’s public-school system. Prior to his collegiate studies, Marc graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy, a world-class fine arts boarding school located in northwestern lower Michigan.

Mr. Boehm has performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Ballet, Atlanta Opera, Savannah Philharmonic, Sarasota Orchestra (FL), Columbus Symphony Orchestra (GA), Macon Symphony Orchestra, LaGrange Symphony, Albany Symphony Orchestra (GA), Atlanta Lyric Theater, Georgia Symphony, Gwinnett Ballet Theatre Company, Gainesville Theatre Alliance, Georgia Brass Band, among others. Marc maintains an active freelance schedule and teaches privately. Mr. Boehm is currently an Artist Affiliate Trombone Instructor at Emory University as well as an Adjunct Instructor of Music and Low Brass at Young Harris College. Beginning in 2020, Marc will be joining the brass faculty at LaGrange College. Additionally, Marc will also be joining the Atlanta Chamber Brass, a professional brass quintet based in the Atlanta area.

In addition to his collegiate work, Marc is also in high demand as a clinician, sectional coach, and private teacher in middle and high schools throughout metro Atlanta. Marc is the owner of The Trombone Academy, LLC, which is a private lesson studio serving local metro-Atlanta students as well as students across the United States via online platforms. Marc proudly served as a Teaching Artist for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra during the 2012-2014 orchestral seasons. In addition, he served as Trombone Teaching Artist for the Atlanta Music Project from 2011- 2016. During the summer months, Mr. Boehm is on Faculty at the Atlanta Chamber Music Festival, and the Atlanta Music Project's Summer Series. Mr. Boehm previously served as Principal Trombonist at the Crested Butte Music Festival in Crested Butte, CO. Many of his students have earned principal positions in Georgia's All-State Bands and Orchestras as well as other music camps and festivals. Marc regularly has students in his studio attend major University music schools as well as some of the country’s top music conservatories. Marc can be heard on the “From the Top” Radio Show on National Public Radio (2003), Live from Lincoln Center broadcasts with the Juilliard Orchestra on PBS, as well as on Joseph Alessi’s album, Return to Sorrento, featuring the Juilliard Trombone Choir. Marc is a proud member of the Atlanta Federation of Musicians Local 148-462.
