Through hands-on learning and meaningful collaboration across the arts, LaGrange helps you turn your passion for music into a purposeful path forward.

At LaGrange College, music students can pursue three distinct degree paths depending on their interests—from performance and theatre to music production and audio engineering.

The Bachelor of Arts in Music offers a broad, liberal arts–based music education that allows students to develop their musical skills while exploring complementary areas of study across campus. Students are encouraged to pair the degree with a minor that supports their interests and career goals.

The Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre prepares students for the stage through training in the three essential elements of musical theatre: music, acting, and dance. Students gain experience through multiple performance opportunities while studying the history and literature of musical theatre.

The Bachelor of Music in Music Production & Audio Engineering prepares students for careers in today’s music industry as songwriters, producers, and audio engineers. Through hands-on work in professional studios, students learn modern production techniques, industry-standard recording practices, and the tools used by working professionals.

The Bachelor of Music in Film & Media Scoring at LaGrange College prepares students to compose and produce original music for film, television, video games, podcasts, and other visual media. Students develop skills in composition, orchestration, arranging, music technology, synchronization, and digital production while gaining hands-on experience scoring to picture. Through collaborative projects with filmmakers and other artists, students build a professional portfolio and develop the creative, technical, and collaborative skills needed for careers as composers, producers, and media-music professionals.

Score real visual media.
Students don’t just study film scoring—they regularly compose music to picture, learning how music supports emotion, pacing, character, and storytelling.

Learn both music and technology.
The program combines traditional composition, orchestration, arranging, and musicianship with DAWs, MIDI, virtual instruments, recording, mixing, and modern production techniques.

Work in professional facilities.
Students have access to professional recording and production spaces, including a studio capable of recording a 45-piece orchestra, giving them opportunities that are difficult to replicate in a typical undergraduate program.

Build a portfolio while in earning a degree.
Students graduate with original scores, recordings, and completed projects they can use to demonstrate their abilities to employers, directors, production companies, graduate programs, and potential clients.

Collaborate across disciplines.
Film scoring is inherently collaborative. At LaGrange, students can work with filmmakers, performers, producers, theater students, and other artists—learning how to communicate and create as part of a creative team.

Develop your own artistic voice.
Rather than training students to imitate a particular “Hollywood sound,” the program emphasizes developing a distinctive compositional voice while giving students the technical vocabulary to work in a wide range of styles.

Prepare for where media music is going.
Today’s composers work across film, television, streaming, gaming, podcasts, advertising, and emerging media. Our program prepares students to think broadly about what it means to be a composer in the modern media landscape.
