Sophomore Solomon Morgan’s passion for music is driven by his faith, both of which he says are what bring him hope during tough challenges.
“I know that leaning on those will get me through the worst of the worst,” he says.
Music has always been something Morgan says he wanted to pursue as a career from the age of 8.
“I thought, ‘I’d want to do this for the rest of my life,’” he says. “I loved the feeling it gave me. Through the years, I feel I’ve acquired many skills and resources to take the musical ideas in my head and turn them into living and breathing projects.”
At LaGrange, the Music Production & Audio Engineering major has been able to grow in his faith and his craft through leading Chapel worship services.
“One of my favorite parts about the process of leading worship is how the Lord works everything out and fills in where I might be lacking,” he says. “It’s amazing to watch God work in those moments. And I give shout-outs to Braeden Martin, Jonquail Gates, Jehnia Nelson and Jala Williams as the worship band wouldn’t be what it is without the gifts, time and talents they bring.”
The Rev. Ashley Jenkins ’08, Chaplain and Spiritual Life Director, says he lives out the saying “Love God, Love Others” in all that he does.
“Solomon has brought joy, enthusiasm and a deep sense of care to Spiritual Life at LaGrange College,” she says. “His musical gifts have strengthened the Chapel Worship band, helping to build a welcoming and uplifting community of worship. Through his leadership and genuine faith, Solomon has encouraged others to engage more fully in worship and to experience God’s presence through music and fellowship.”
This fall, Morgan has been serving as an intern at First Baptist Church on the Square. The opportunity was made possible thanks to the NetVUE grant for Fostering Leadership for Communities of Faith from the Council of Independent Colleges. The Lilly Endowment provides generous support for the funding of the grant.
“Working in ministry has always been a great joy of mine,” he says. “For this internship, I’ve been able to play drums for Sunday morning worship, lead Sunday School lessons for pre-teens and teens, help with overnight retreats for the youth groups and lead worship on those retreats. It warms my heart to see younger kids have a desire for strong faith and fellowship with others.”
Church-based internship applications for Spring 2026 are now open. Interested students are asked to contact Rev. Jenkins at ajenkins@lagrange.edu.
At LC, Morgan holds membership roles in Black Student Union, Baptist Collegiate Ministries, LC Singers, Circle K and Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, which he is also serves as vice president. In addition, he edits audio for the Panther Talk podcast.
Last spring, Morgan acted and composed his own music for the role of Orpheus in the Price Theater play “Eurydice.”
“Theatre is a second love for me,” he says. “I love to perform and taking part in theatre is another way for me to express myself.”
Why should prospective students come to LC?
“They should come to LaGrange College because it is a welcoming place with faculty and staff who care and have the student’s best interest at heart.”
