College Appoints Dr. Kiril Kolev as Vice President for Academic Affairs

LaGrange College has named Dr. Kiril Kolev the Vice President for Academic Affairs, appointing an experienced academic leader to guide the institution’s academic strategy beginning June 15.

Dr. Kolev brings a visionary approach to academic leadership, with extensive experience enhancing experiential learning, modernizing curricula and integrating innovative technologies. His work has supported institution-wide efforts to boost student enrollment, improve retention rates, and increase successful graduate outcomes by enhancing the overall student experience.

Recognized as a dedicated scholar and inspiring educator, he is deeply committed to fostering faculty growth, promoting collaborative governance, and using data to guide strategic decisions.

“During my campus visit, I was impressed by the strong sense of purpose shared by the faculty, staff, and community partners who are committed to helping LaGrange students realize their full potential,” Kolev said.

“It was clear that LaGrange plays an integral role in a closely connected and dynamic region that honors its traditions while embracing new opportunities. What stood out most was the combination of a clear-eyed commitment to serving students and a genuine sense of joy in that work. My wife Annie and I are excited to become part of the LaGrange campus and community.”

Building on this expertise, Dr. Kolev’s leadership aligns closely with LaGrange College’s commitment to blending comprehensive academics with practical opportunities for student success.

“Kiril is an excellent fit for LaGrange College as we continue strengthening our liberal arts foundation while expanding programs that prepare our students to succeed in meaningful careers and serve our region,” said President Susanna L. Baxter. “He brings impressive academic credentials, significant leadership experience, and a strong dedication to student success through innovative teaching, high-impact learning experiences, and thoughtful curricular leadership. I’m excited to welcome him and his wife Annie to our community.”

Dr. Kolev earned his Ph.D. in Political Science (Comparative Politics) from Duke University and B.A. in Economics from Whittier College. He has held progressive leadership roles at Hendrix College, most recently serving as Associate Provost for Engaged Learning.

This appointment is a key part of LaGrange College’s strategic plan to foster long-term growth by expanding undergraduate and graduate programs, creating experiential learning opportunities through meaningful partnerships, and supporting faculty with effective and inclusive pedagogical practices tailored to diverse learning styles. LaGrange College partnered with executive search firm Hyatt-Fennell to assist in identifying and recruiting Dr. Kolev.
