Dr. Crystal Smith is the owner, clinical director, and mental health therapist of Joy Wellness Counseling Center in Conyers, Georgia. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS) in the state of Georgia.
Dr. Smith graduated with my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision (CES), with a concentration in Trauma and Crisis from Walden University in 2024. She also graduated with honors with a master's degree in Community Counseling in 2012 from Argosy University. She has clinical and supervisory experience working in community counseling, the Department of Corrections, Juvenile Justice, and private practice. She was a mental health supervisor at the Department of Juvenile Justice and a lead clinician at DeKalb Community Service Board. Dr. Smith is currently the clinical supervisor of two associate licensed clinicians at my private practice.
She has teaching experience as an Adjunct Professor, teaching Theories of Counseling, Individual Analysis, and Professional Ethics in synchronous and asynchronous courses. She also has teaching experience as a remote contributing faculty member teaching Group Counseling, Theories of Counseling, Techniques, and Pre-Practicum. Dr. Smith has presented at several mental health conferences, including, but not limited to, the American Counseling Association of Georgia (ACA of GA), the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES), the Georgia Society of Adlerian Psychology Conference (GSAP), and the Expanding the Women-in-Leadership Advantage Conference.
Dr. Smith is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Counseling Association (ACA), Southern Association of Counselor Education and Supervision (SACES), Association of Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES), Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) Omega Zeta Chapter, and Licensed Professional Counseling Association of Georgia (LPCA of GA).
Her specialties include depression, anxiety, and trauma. Her research and clinical interests include Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and trauma. Dr. Smith's advocacy measures include destigmatizing and increasing access to mental health in the Black community.
