Financial Aid and Loan Forgiveness Options:
Federal Direct Loan: Graduate students may qualify for a Federal Direct Loan of up to $20,500 annually to cover the remaining program costs. A portion of the loan may be eligible for forgiveness through the Stafford Loan Forgiveness Program for Teachers.
The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program provides up to $4,000 per year for up to a maximum of $8,000 to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families as a highly-qualified, full-time teacher in a high-need subject area. Designated high-need subject areas are mathematics, science, Bilingual Education and English Language Acquisition, foreign language, special education, reading specialist, or other identified teacher shortage area. The Stafford Loan Forgiveness Program for Teachers is intended to encourage students to enter and continue in the teaching profession. After completing 5 years of full-time, qualifying teaching service at an eligible elementary or secondary school, some teachers may be eligible for up to $5,000 in Federal Stafford or Direct Loan forgiveness. Highly qualified teachers in mathematics, science, or special education may be eligible for up to $17,500 in Federal Stafford or Direct Loan forgiveness after completing 5 years of full-time, qualifying teaching service.
