Professor of Music

Mitch Turner studied music at Georgia Southern University (BS in Communications) and The University of Georgia, earning his M.M. in Composition in 1993 and Ph.D. in Music Theory in 1999. His primary interests involve research into atonal pitch structure and composition. His pieces have been performed at various meetings of the College Music Society, the Southeastern Composers’ League, SEAMUS and PdCons. His music is published by Conners Publications and Wehr’s Music House. He has released music on the Hooker Vision and Constellation Tatsu recording labels. His compositions with pure data and max/msp have been performed internationally in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and Brazil.

Dr. Turner is currently Professor of Music, Program Coordinator of Digital Creative Media and Film and Program Coordinator of Music at LaGrange College. Previously, he was a visiting lecturer at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, 2001-2002, and has taught as an Adjunct Professor of Music Theory, Composition, and Guitar at Piedmont College and Toccoa Falls College. From 2000-2001 he was an instructor at the University of Georgia, teaching graduate and undergraduate Music Theory and undergraduate Composition.
