LaGrange College Hours of Service Campaign
Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. ~from Peace Prayer of St. Francis
Throughout our nation's history, volunteers have been dedicated to protecting and preserving the country's natural environment, mentoring and tutoring young people, feeding the hungry and homeless, donating time to nonprofits, serving in local civic organizations and countless other services to communities.
LaGrange College also has a strong tradition of community involvement. Building on that tradition and its commitment to servant-leadership, current students are involved in a variety of volunteer activities, either through their Greek or athletic organizations, church affiliations or on their own. Faculty and staff are members of civic organizations, community or church volunteers and serve on the boards of non-profits. Hundreds of LaGrange College alumni, friends, faculty and staff volunteer their time and talent. We would like to begin recording the number of hours contributed by those affiliated with the College. What Should You Report? Any work done on the behalf of others at no charge. Volunteer work at a private office, working for an elected official, or political campaign should not be reported. Activities coordinated by a religious institution (church, synagogue, or mosque) must provide service to the general community, i.e. soup kitchens or clothing drives. Work related to internal membership activities such as recruitment or training does not qualify.
Volunteer Opportunities Do you want to be a volunteer, but aren't sure of the opportunities that are available in your local community? Ask your church, local schools or community hospital about volunteer activities. Is there a Big Brothers/Sisters or Special Olympics program in your area? Other organizations to consider are Habitat for Humanity, American Cancer Society or Literacy Volunteers of America.
