Williams honored for distinguished service

Deedee Godwin Williams of West Point has received the 2013 Distinguished Service
Alumni Award from LaGrange College. She was honored during commencement ceremonies
Williams earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and mathematics
from the college in 1974, and is vice president of business development at West
Point-based Hal Gibson Companies, a consulting firm for construction project management.
She serves on the State of Georgia Professional Licensing Review Board and the
Georgia Independent College Association Board of Advisors, and has been recognized
with the distinguished service award by West Georgia Technical College.
Her community involvement includes service on the executive committee of the LaGrange-Troup
County Chamber of Commerce, where she co-chairs the West Point business council
and serves on the college and career academy steering committee; LaGrange
Symphony Orchestra executive committee; Three Rivers chapter of the American Red
Cross board of directors, where she serves as chair of the significant gifts subcommittee;
treasurer of the Virginia Cook Museum founding committee; and the LaGrange Woman's
At LaGrange College, she has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 2008,
where she serves on the student affairs subcommittee. She also was a member of
the Leadership Council from 2001-07. In 1997, she was named to the Wall of Outstanding
She is married to Calvin Lamar Williams, also a graduate of LaGrange College,
and they have two children – C.J. Williams and Kristen Williams Derk. They are
members of Keeney United Methodist Church in West Point, where she has served as
chair of the administrative council.
