Music professor named parade grand marshal

June 6, 2013

Lee Johnson, Fuller E. Callaway Professor of Music, has been named grand marshal of the annual Sweet Land of Liberty parade.

Sara Hudson, co-chair of the parade, said Johnson was a natural choice.

“He has accomplished so much in the music industry and has done so much for both the college and community,” she said. “Also, he and his family are very military oriented. He and his wife are veterans, and their children currently serve in the military.”

Hudson said Johnson exemplifies what the Sweet Land of Liberty parade is all about – patriotism, music and community.

“Lee is an outstanding person, both in his professional life and personal life,” she said.

In honor of Johnson, this year’s parade theme is “Of Thee I Sing.”

The annual Sweet Land of Liberty Parade will be at 10 a.m. July 4 and is open to youth 19 years and younger. No adults are allowed in the parade except those designated by the committee. Floats must be made by the participants, although they may have adult supervision.

Participation is free and registration forms are available from Troup County Parks
