Music professor named parade grand marshal

Lee Johnson, Fuller E. Callaway Professor of Music, has been named grand marshal
of the annual Sweet Land of Liberty parade.
Sara Hudson, co-chair of the parade, said Johnson was a natural choice.
“He has accomplished so much in the music industry and has done so much for both
the college and community,” she said. “Also, he and his family are very military
oriented. He and his wife are veterans, and their children currently serve in the

In honor of Johnson, this year’s parade theme is “Of Thee I Sing.”
The annual Sweet Land of Liberty Parade will be at 10 a.m. July 4 and is open
to youth 19 years and younger. No adults are allowed in the parade except those
designated by the committee. Floats must be made by the participants, although
they may have adult supervision.
