Celebrate the Servant begins Nov. 30
Nov. 20, 2009

The Christmas season officially starts on the Hill Nov. 30 when students, faculty and staff return from Thanksgiving break and begin Celebrate the Servant week. The event was inaugurated in 2001 as part of the College’s holiday observances and features a week filled with College and community activities designed to put an emphasis on servant-leadership.

The ninth edition of Celebrate the Servant kicks off with the Servant Leader awards at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30 in the Dickson Assembly Room of Mabry Gipson Student Center.  A reception will follow in the lobby.

This year’s recipients are Alie Jones, Jennifer Claybrook, Dr. Tom and Mrs. Ruth West and the Hogansville First United Methodist SHOUT Creative Arts Team.

On Tuesday, Dec. 1, the Chapel will host a Service of Praise and Thanksgiving to honor faculty, administrators and staff who were recognized for service milestones this fall. Student Government Association officers also will be honored for their service. A luncheon for the honorees and their families will follow in the Dickson Assembly Room.

The Library Plaza will be bustling with holiday cheer at 4:30 p.m. Friday for “Christmas on the Hill,” featuring pictures with Santa, ornament and cookie decorating, Christmas caroling and the traditional lighting of the Christmas tree.

The Panther Toy Store will be open on Saturday for under-privileged families in the LaGrange area.

The week will conclude with the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 at Callaway Auditorium. The annual service tells the nativity story through scripture readings and music from the LaGrange College Singers.  The choir will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra, complete with percussion, harp, strings, brass and winds, said Debbie Ogle, Director of Choral Activities.

“This is a night of worship that has become what I can only hope is a welcomed tradition here in LaGrange,” she said. The event is free and open to the public.
