Empire Brass to perform Feb. 17
Feb. 2, 2009

On Feb. 17, the College will welcome the internationally acclaimed
group The Empire Brass to Callaway Auditorium as part of a new
performance schedule known as the Callaway Concert Series.
“This is a rare opportunity to hear a group of some of the world’s most
talented artists perform an eclectic mix of music,” said Dr. Toni
Anderson, Chair of the Music Department.
“There will be something here for everyone.”
As the first brass ensemble to win the prestigious Naumberg Chamber
Music Award, The Empire Brass enjoys an international reputation as
North America’s finest brass quintet.
The five musicians—all of whom have held leading positions with major
American orchestras—perform more than 100 concerts a year in cities
from New York to Chicago, Zurich to Tokyo.
The ensemble’s best-selling recordings on the Telarc label have
introduced an even larger audience to the excitement of brass music
that ranges from Bach and Handel to jazz and Broadway.
The inaugural season for the Callaway Concert Series began in November
when classical guitarist Manuel Barrueco paid a visit to LaGrange.
After the Feb. 17 performance by The Empire Brass, the Shanghai Quartet
will close out the season with a performance on March 31.
The new series was made possible thanks to a gift from Callaway
Foundation, Inc. Dr. Anderson said the idea behind the concerts was
“to expose our students to a variety of professional talents” and to
“give those in the community the opportunity to enjoy world-class
performances.”
Tickets for the remaining two events are available for $10, $20, $25
and $200 for a box. LaGrange students get in free, but will still need
to reserve a ticket. Other students may purchase a ticket for $5.
