LaGrange Symphony Chorus announces auditions
June 15, 2010
Community auditions for the LaGrange Symphony
Chorus will continue until classes begin Sept. 1. The auditions will
be by appointment only, and an accompanist will be provided.
Those
interested in auditioning should be prepared to perform one solo (an
aria from an opera or oratorio or an art song in any language);
vocalizations to determine range and voice type; scales (major, minor,
and chromatic); matching pitch drills; tonal memory drills (intervals
and scale movement) and simple sight reading.
The new group, composed of college students and community
volunteers, will be led by Debbie Ogle, Director of Choral Activities
at the college.
“A college ensemble will be the core of the
chorus,” she said. “Our primary purpose is to provide opportunities
for selected students to learn and perform masterworks of orchestral
choral music.”
A collaborative effort between LaGrange
College and the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra, the chorus will be
performing master works of a large scale under the direction of
symphony conductor, Patricio Cobos and Ogle.
The community singers of the LSC will be
volunteers from LaGrange and the surrounding area of West Georgia and
East Alabama. They will rehearse from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Mondays in the
Callaway Auditorium during the college fall and spring semesters
(September to December, and February to May). The community singers
are joined in rehearsals by auditioned members of the LaGrange College
Chamber Choir, who also rehearse separately as a part of their academic
schedule.
During the week preceding concerts, the chorus
usually will rehearse each evening. For the first concert in December,
rehearsals will be Nov. 28 through the dress rehearsal with the
orchestra on Dec. 6. There will be no rehearsals Dec. 1 and Dec. 4.
To request an appointment, call (706) 880-8351 after July 5 and leave a name and number or e-mail lsc_auditions@lagrangesymphony.org.
