(See GALILEO for a complete list of databases)

LaGrange College, as of May 2005, was the only small liberal arts college in America having online access to The Early American Imprints, Series I, Evans (1639-1800); Early American Imprints, Series II: Shaw-Shoemaker, 1801-1819; and Early American Newspapers (1690-1876).   These full-image databases include books, pamphlets, broadsides, letters, diaries, playbills, etc. listed in bibliographies by Charles Evans; Ralph R. Shaw; and Richard H. Shoemaker; as well as hundreds of historic newspapers based on Clarence Brigham's History and Bibliography of American Newspapers, 1690-1820, and supplemented by other newspaper holdings from other institutions and historical societies.

Collectively these collections are known as The Archive of Americana.  They represent a rich resource of primary sources associated with all aspects of life in America from 1639 to 1876.  The Archive of Americana contains a wealth of material of historical significance for literature, music, art and architecture, political thought, agriculture, religion, philosophy, history, and the social sciences.

Access to Early American Imprints and the Early American Newspapers is through GALILEO.  The Early American Imprints are also cataloged and included in the library's Online Catalog.
