Academic Scholarships
Each year LaGrange College recognizes the academic achievements of outstanding entering freshmen by granting scholarship awards ranging from $4,500 to full tuition, room and board. These merit scholarships are made possible through endowments established by the generous gifts of alumni and supporters of LaGrange College. All entering freshmen are evaluated for academic scholarships as part of the admission process. The top applicants accepted for admission by January 15 will be invited to compete in the Scholar Weekend Competition, held in February. Scholarships are awarded at the following levels:

Presidential
is a four-year, renewable academic scholarship, full scholarship (tuition, mandatory fees, room and board scholarship) awarded at the Scholar Weekend Competition. Presidential awards of Georgia residents, eligible for the HOPE Scholarship and Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant, will be reduced by the value of these state programs.

Dean's is a four-year, renewable academic scholarship, $12,000 scholarship awarded at the Scholar Weekend Competition.

Fellows is a four-year, renewable academic scholarship, $10,000 scholarship. Recipients of Fellows are eligible to compete in the Scholar Weekend Competition for a Dean's or Presidential level scholarship. If selected to receive one of these awards, the scholarship will replace the previous award.

Founders is a four-year, $8,000, renewable academic scholarship. Founders recipients are eligible to compete in the Scholar Weekend Competition for a Dean's, Fellows, or Presidential level scholarship. If selected to receive one of these awards, the scholarship will replace the previous award.

LaFayette Scholarship is a four-year, $6,000 renewable academic scholarship.

Quadrangle Scholarship is a four-year, $4,500 renewable academic scholarship.


Fine Arts Scholarships
LaGrange College's Theatre Arts, Music, and Art and Design Programs, through the generous support of alumni and supports of LaGrange College Fine Art program, award the exceptional talents of prospective and current students with departmental scholarships. These scholarships are competitive and are awarded based on academic promise, audition, portfolio, and departmental interviews. The Office of Admission can provide additional information on Fine Art Scholarships.

LaGrange College Art Scholarship is institutional funds set aside to recognize the talent and promise of current and prospective students in the area Art and Design.

Josephine A. Case Scholarship was established by Mrs. Case and her husband, the late Dr. Leland D. Case. The scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior in recognition of excellence and promise in the area of art. The Scholarship Committee of the Department of Art and Design selects the recipient.

Mary Lehmann Dodd Scholarship was established by family and friends in memory of Mary Lehmann Dodd, class of 1929. This scholarship is awarded to students demonstrating promise in the area of art. The scholarship committee of the Department of Art and Design selects scholarship recipients.

Morrill and William Hutchinson Art Scholarship is awarded to Troup County residents based on excellence in the area of Art and Design. The Scholarship Committee of the Department of Art and Design selects the recipient.

James and Guthrie Killebrew Scholarship was established by Dr. and Mrs. James Killebrew.  This scholarship is awarded to a student whose major or intended major is Art with financial need.

Maxie C. Estes Scholarship was established by family and friends of Dr. Estes and the LaGrange College Alumni Association. Dr. Estes served LaGrange College from 1962 to 1986 as the Chairman of the Division of Fine Arts and Professor of Speech and Drama. This scholarship is awarded based on dramatic excellence and promise in theatre by the Scholarship Committee of the Department of Theatre Arts.

Hearnburg Endowed Theatre Achievement Scholarship was established by William V. Hearnburg, class of 1964, to provide financial assistance to theatre or drama majors, who are sophomores or higher, that demonstrate talent in the performing arts. The faculty of the Theatre Arts Department via an audition shall select the recipient.

Mamie Lark Henry Drama Scholarship was established to honor Mamie Lark Henry, wife of Chancellor Waights G. Henry Jr., former President of LaGrange College. This scholarship is awarded in recognition of dramatic promise by the Theatre Arts Department.

Evelyn Powell Hoffman Drama Scholarship was established by her family as a memorial to Mrs. Hoffman, a graduate of the class of 1930. This scholarship is awarded annually to a freshman with dramatic promise through audition by the Theatre Arts Department at the Fine Arts Competition.

Kendall Eugene Morris Scholarship was established by Nancy Mitchell Morris, class of 1960.  This scholarship is awarded annually by audition to a student whose major or intended major is Theatre Arts with financial need.

LaGrange College Music Scholarship is institutional funds set aside to recognize the talent and promise of current and prospective students in the area Music.

Pauline Witherspoon Hutchinson Music Scholarship was established by William L. Hutchinson, M.D., Mrs. Pauline Hutchinson Smith, Miss Pauline Hutchinson, Mrs. Frank Witherspoon Hutchinson Jr. and Mrs. Sara Hutchinson Mosley in memory of their grandmother who taught voice and piano at LaGrange College from 1886 to 1889. This scholarship is awarded to students pursuing a major in Music by audition or academic excellence. The Scholarship Committee of the Department of Music selects the recipient.

Felecia E. Maddox Music Scholarship was endowed in her memory by her husband, George M. Maddox. The fund is intended to give financial assistance to deserving students of music. The Department of Music selects the recipients by audition or demonstrated academic excellence or promise.

Mattox-Zachry Music Achievement Scholarship was established in memory of Kenrick Ware Mattox Sr., J. Low Zachry and Janie Nall Zachry. The scholarship shall be awarded by the Director of Financial Aid in consultation with the chair of the Department of Music and the Director of Admission to a prospective student of good character who demonstrates musical and academic promise. The scholarship is renewable each year provided that he or she maintains a 3.0 grade point average.

Hortense Hughes Moore Scholarship was established Dr. John V. Moore in memory of his mother, Hortense Hughes Moore, class of 27. This scholarship will be awarded to a music major who demonstrates financial need. The Music Department will select the recipient.

Polly Smith Moore Music Scholarship was established by Walter Evans in memory of his mother, Polly Smith Moore, class of 1927. The scholarship will be awarded to Music majors demonstrating financial need. The Music Department in consultation with the Financial Aid Office will select the recipients.

Rodney Laird and Carolyn Monfort Bernard '59 Annual Music Scholarship Grant was established by Rodney L. Bernard and Carolyn Monfort Bernard, class of 1959, to reflect their love and commitment to LaGrange College and their support and admiration of LaGrange College Music Department and its mission. This scholarship is to provide need-based financial assistance to an incoming student who intends to major in Music.

Kathryn T. Cline Annual Music Scholarship Grant Fund was established by Mrs. Francis Henry Rand, class of 1956, in recognition of Dr. Kathryn Cline, LaGrange College professor of music from 1940 to 1980. This scholarship is to provide need-based financial assistance to a student who intends to major in Music.

Herbert H. Cox Annual Music Scholarship was established by David M. and Janet Rutledge Thompson, class of 1977, to provide need-based grant assistance to an incoming LaGrange College student who plans to major in Music. The Financial Aid Office awards this scholarship.

George Edwin Morrison, Jr., Music Award was established by Jane Mathews Morrison, class of 1963, and Anise Morrison, class of 1992, to provide scholarship assistance to a LaGrange College Music major. The Financial Aid Office in consultation with the Music Department selects the recipient of this $1,000 annual award.

Amy Johnson Smith Boozer Endowed Music Achievement Scholarship was established by Robert K. Boozer in loving memory of his mother. This scholarship is to provide scholarship assistance to students whose major or intended major is Music and who demonstrates exceptional talent. The Scholarship Committee of the Department of Music selects the recipients.

Ann Louise Kitchen Bryant Annual Music Scholarship was established by Rev. Charles M. and Dr. Toni Passmore Anderson to honor the significant influence Mrs. Bryant, an elementary music educator, made in the life and career of Dr. Anderson. This scholarship is to be awarded to a student with financial need whose major or intended major is Music. The Music Department in consultation with the Financial Aid Office will select the recipient.


Transfer Scholarships
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is a two-year, $6,000, renewable academic scholarship awarded to qualified transfer students who are U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens fully inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. The Office of Admission determines the recipients of this scholarship.

Transfer Scholarship is a renewable academic scholarship awarded to students transferring to LaGrange College from a college or university with a minimum of 30 semester hours and a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The Office of Admission determines the recipients of this scholarship. Scholarship awards range from $1000 to $4000 each year.


Endowed Merit Scholarships
Sara Quillian Baldwin Scholarship was established in memory of Sara Q. Baldwin, class of 1901, by Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Turnell. The Financial Aid Office awards this scholarship to students with financial need with preference given to descendents of Mrs. Baldwin.

Carolyn Drinkard Burgess Scholarship was established through gifts of alumni, friends and family of Mrs. Burgess upon her retirement from the College after 30 years of service. The Financial Aid Office will award these scholarship funds.

Flora Glenn Candler Scholarship was established by Mr. Charles Howard Candler Jr. in memory of his mother, Mrs. Flora Glenn Chandler, an 1898 alumna of LaGrange College and the daughter of a Methodist minister, the late Reverend Wilbur Fisk Glenn. The Financial Aid Office awards this scholarship to students with financial need, character, academic promise and potential leadership.

Thomas W. Clifton Scholarship was established in memory of Mr. Thomas W. Clifton in recognition of the emphasis he placed on support of education. Based on academic excellence, character, involvement in meaningful extra-curricular activities and financial need, this scholarship is awarded by The Financial Aid Office.

George Sydney Jr. and Lillian Edmondson Cobb Scholarship was established by Mrs. George S. Cobb Jr. to provide scholarships and grants to deserving students. The Financial Aid Office awards this scholarship.

Remer and Emily Fischer Crum Scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Remer H. Crum of Atlanta and is awarded by the Financial Aid Office to students with financial need and academic promise.

Farmer Sisters Scholarship was established by Mr. Joseph J. Lipka in memory of Sarah and Jeannette Farmer and in honor of his wife, Gene Farmer Lipka. The Financial Aid Office will award these scholarship funds.

John and Mary Franklin Scholarship was established by the John and Mary Franklin Foundation, Inc. This scholarship is awarded based on academic excellence in high school, SAT scores and recommendations of character and personal qualities. The Financial Aid Office will award these scholarship funds.

Goizueta Scholarship was established by a grant from the Goizueta Foundation to provide scholarship assistance to Hispanic students whose families currently reside in the United States and demonstrate financial need. The Financial Aid Office and the Office of Admission will award the scholarship(s).

Charles D. Hudson Scholarship was established by friends of Charles D. Hudson. This scholarship is to be awarded to a LaGrange College student in good standing that demonstrates financial need. The Financial Aid Office selects the recipients.

William B. and Mary Ann T. Hudson Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman based on academic excellence and community service. The Financial Aid Office and the Office of Admission selects the recipient.

Pearl White Potts Scholarship was established by the estate of Amy Potts Burgess in memory of her mother, Pearl White Potts, class of 1894. The scholarship will provide need-based scholarship assistance to LaGrange College students with preferences given to descendents of Pearl White Potts. The Financial Aid Office awards this scholarship.

Milton Ratner Scholarship was established by a gift from the Milton M. Ratner Foundation to assist students with demonstrated financial need. The Financial Aid Office selects the recipient.

James H. and Terrellis R. Smith Scholarship is awarded based on academic promise with preference given to descendants of the donor's maternal grandparents. The Financial Aid Office selects the recipient.

Hank Spinks Scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. Spinks of LaGrange in memory of their son. The scholarship is to be awarded by the Financial Aid Office to students with financial need, a 'B' average and good character.


Departmental Scholarships
These scholarships are usually awarded to upperclassmen in recognition of academic excellence.

Bank of America Scholarship provides a need-based merit scholarship administered by the Georgia Foundation for Independent Colleges (GFIC). The scholarship is awarded to a student working toward a degree in a business-related field with a 3.0 or better grade point average. The amount of the annual award varies. The Financial Aid Office in consultation with the Department of Business and Economics selects the recipient.

James R. and Mary Evelyn Belle-Isle-Griggs Scholarship is awarded to students with financial need and academic promise majoring in Business Administration. The scholarship committee of the Department of Business and Economics selects the recipients.

Elizabeth Kelly Bradford Annual Scholarship was established by Dr. Peter Avery Mallory and Sarah Beth Mallory to provide scholarship assistance to a student demonstrating financial need and in good academic standing at LaGrange College. In awarding this scholarship, preference will be given to students who indicate an intention to major in elementary education. The Financial Aid Office awards this scholarship.

H.S. Burdette, Jr. Endowed Scholarship Grant Fund was established by H. Speer Burdette, III, Lyn Burdette Evans, and Steve Burdette in loving memory of their father, H.S. Burdette, Jr. This scholarship will provide assistance to a student with demonstrated financial need who plans to pursue a degree in Accounting. The Financial Aid Office in consultation with the Business and Economics Department will select the recipient.

J.K. Boatwright Jr. Scholarship is awarded annually in memory of J.K. Boatwright Jr. a longtime trustee and friend of LaGrange College. The scholarship is awarded to students of good character who demonstrate academic promise and financial need with preference given to Business and Accounting majors. The scholarship committee of the Department of Business and Economics selects recipients.

Jeanette Strickland Cook Scholarship was established by the late Benjamin Lane Cook to benefit a teacher in the Troup County School System that desires to further his/her education at LaGrange College. The Scholarship Committee of the Education Department selects the recipient.

Kate Howard Cross Scholarship was established by Virginia F. Prettyman of Chapel Hill, N.C., to honor Kate Howard Cross, Professor of Latin at LaGrange College, and is awarded to a History or English major. The Scholarship Committee of the Education and History Departments selects the recipient.

Estelle Jones Culpepper Scholarship was established by Dolly Jones House, class of 1915. The scholarship is awarded to students preparing for ministry in the United Methodist Church. The scholarship committee of the Department of Religion selects the recipients.

C. William Curry Scholarship was established by Mrs. C.W. Curry as a tribute to Mr. Bill Curry, a faithful Trustee and friend of LaGrange College. The scholarship is awarded to students majoring in Business with financial need and academic promise. The scholarship committee of the Department of Business and Economics selects the recipients.

Samuel L. Gipson Endowed Scholarship was established by Janet Mabry Gipson, class of 1966, in loving memory of her husband Samuel L. Gipson, class of 1965. This scholarship is to be awarded to students who demonstrate financial need and whose major or intended major is Business.

Greene–Sawtell Scholarship was established by the Greene-Sawtell Foundation and is awarded based on academic excellence, financial need and academic promise to students majoring in Business. The scholarship is awarded by the Department of Business and Economics.

Greenville United Methodist Scholarship is awarded to a LaGrange College student in good standing with a 2.75 grade point average who is majoring in Religion or Music. Recipients are selected by a committee composed of representatives from Greenville United Methodist Church, LaGrange College's chaplain and the chairpersons of the Christian Education and Music departments.

Roger Guptill Scholarship was established in memory of the late Dr. Roger Guptill, minister, teacher and Christian gentleman. The scholarship is awarded annually to a senior Religion major preparing for full-time church service. The Department of Religion and Philosophy selects the recipient.

Julia Vernon Keller and William Wates Keller Endowment Fund was established by Mr. and Mrs. William Wates Keller of LaGrange to provide scholarship assistance to deserving graduates of LaGrange High School who are majoring in education. The Financial Aid Office selects the scholarship recipient after consulting with the Education Department.

Sandra Kratina Nursing Scholarship is a renewable academic scholarship awarded to students pursuing careers in Nursing. Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, promise, character and interview. The Division of Nursing determines scholarship recipients. Scholarship awards vary.

Mary Hunter Lindsey Scholarship was established by The Reverend William Oliver Lindsey Sr. in memory of his wife, Mary H. Hunter Lindsey, class of 1914. This scholarship is awarded to Methodist students entering their senior year in college and who are preparing for full-time ministry. The Scholarship Committee of the Department of Religion and Philosophy selects the recipient.

Louise W. McCook Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Louise W. McCook, wife of Dr. C. Frank McCook, Emeritus Professor of Religion. Preference in awarding this scholarship is given to Christian Education majors, then Religion majors. Selection of recipients is made by the Department of Religion and Philosophy.

Pike Scholarship was established by Mrs. Ruth Pike Key in memory of her father and mother, Christian Nathaniel Pike and Adella Hunter Pike, class of 1894, and is awarded to Baptist or Methodist students in the senior year who are majoring in Religion or Religious Education, or who plan to enter a full-time church vocation. Selection of recipients is made by the Department of Religion and Philosophy.

Dr. Robert P. Price Memorial Scholarship Grant Fund was established by Elizabeth Guinevere Freeman, class of 1976, in memory of Dr. Robert P. Price, LaGrange College professor of psychology. This scholarship will provide scholarship assistance for an incoming student demonstrating financial need with preference given to a student whose intention is to major in psychology.

John L. Shibley – Arthur M. Hicks Scholarship was established through gifts from family and friends of Dr. Shibley and Dr. Hicks, both professors of thirty-five years at LaGrange College. This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior majoring in Chemistry or Biology with a 3.0 or better grade point average. The Department of Biology and Chemistry Scholarship Committee selects the recipients.

Phillip W. Still and Leo S. Still Scholarship was established by Juanice Still in honor of her sons, Philip William Still, class of 1981, and Leo Sibley Still, class of 1977. This scholarship is to benefit a non-traditional student who has chosen to major or minor in Religion. Selection of recipients is made by the Department of Religion and Philosophy.

Peggy McElhanon Gordon Annual Scholarship Grant was established by Jefferson Taylor Gordon, class of 1985, to provide a need-based grant to an Education major that is enrolled and in good academic standing. The Financial Aid Office awards the annual grant of $1,000.

Clifford Lamar McEachern, Martha Kelley McEachern and Noah Wilbourne Kelley Memorial Annual Scholarship established by Marion Kelley McEachern, class of 1970, in memory of his father, mother and uncle. The scholarship will be awarded to a freshman who plans to pursue a major in English. The annual amount of the scholarship is $1,000.

J. Ralph Matthews Annual Memorial Scholarship was established by James R. Matthews, class of 1965, in loving memory of his father. This scholarship is to provide need-based financial assistance to an incoming student who plans to pursue a major in Business.

Elizabeth Merritt Peavy '32 Annual Scholarship was established by Elizabeth Peavy Murdock, class of 1954, in memory of her mother, Elizabeth Merritt Peavy, class of 1932. This scholarship will provide a need-based scholarship to an incoming student who plans to pursue a major in English. The annual amount of this scholarship is $1000.

George W. Rice Annual Scholarship was established by representatives of the George W. Rice Trust Fund to provide assistance to an enrolled student at LaGrange College in good standing who will serve as an assistant to the pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church. The recipient is selected by the director of church leadership and director of financial aid.

United Parcel Service (UPS) Scholarship provides an annual scholarship in recognition of academic excellence and financial need. This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior with preference given to an Education major. The Financial Aid Office in consultation with the Education Department awards this scholarship.
