My Defining Moment

Austin Cook Austin Cook
For Austin Cook III ’69, LaGrange College is a way of life. His father served as College business manager for 32 years, and he followed his mother as a graduate of the institution. Plus, he has served as campus Postmaster for 26 years. So, he had much to pay tribute to when he established an annual scholarship in his parents’ honor a few years ago.

Jane Holik Jane Holik
For Jane Holik, it is easy being green! She and three classmates share a small, environmentally proactive bungalow on campus they affectionately call, “Gang Green.”

“This is the first year for the college to have a ‘green’ house,” she says. “We have tons of ideas for making it more sustainable. It’s an older home, but we have a new, more efficient toilet, a new shower head and a new water heater that heats water only when you need it.“

Matt Peek Matt Peek
Though Presidential Scholar Matt Peek graduates in 2008, before the new library opens, he is excited about the opportunities for more in-depth research that future classes of students will experience. “As a history major, it’s important for us to have access to sources, particularly primary sources,” he says. “I’ve had to rely heavily on the inter-library loan system, waiting up to two weeks for a source.”

Cheryl Ward Cheryl Ward
When Cheryl Ward arrived at the College in 1978, she planned to major in nursing. Though she later changed to business, she still has spent her entire career helping others. Ward has worked with the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services for nearly 22 years and now serves as a supervisor in Child Protective Services.
