My Defining Moment
Though Presidential Scholar Matt Peek graduates in 2008, before the new library opens, he is excited about the opportunities for more in-depth research that future classes of students will experience. “As a history major, it’s important for us to have access to sources, particularly primary sources,” he says. “I’ve had to rely heavily on the inter-library loan system, waiting up to two weeks for a source.”
Last year, Matt received one of LaGrange’s two Phi Alpha Theta (history honors society) research awards at a regional conference in Nashville.
Self-motivated by nature, he says, “Drs. Cafaro, Shirley and Mills all inspired me to work harder. Academically, they are brilliant, and—more than that—they care about you as a student not only in class, but beyond the classroom.
“LaGrange College has opened my eyes; I see things on a broader level.”
