My Defining Moment
When Cheryl Ward arrived at the College in 1978, she planned to major in nursing. Though she later changed to business, she still has spent her entire career helping others. Ward has worked with the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services for nearly 22 years and now serves as a supervisor in Child Protective Services.
“I probably should have majored in social work,” she says, “but my business background helped prepare me to manage people. If I had it to do all over again, I would come back to LaGrange.
”She fondly recalls her days on the Hill: weekend water balloon fights, pooling resources with friends to make a pizza run—and meeting her husband of 25 years, Kenneth Ward ’80. Now, she enjoys giving back so others can enjoy the LaGrange experience.
“In today’s society, it is hard to succeed without an education,” she says. “It’s satisfying to know that I’m helping a student make the transition to adulthood.”
