Sometimes the best way to lead is to serve. You'll discover that right from the start as a freshman at LaGrange College, where you'll participate in a First Week Service Project to help those in need in our community. Through our Servant-Leadership initiatives, you'll experience an inward journey that leads to an outreach of your time and talents.

The Office of Community Service provides volunteer service opportunities for all members of LaGrange College and encourages them to examine social and cultural issues by connecting them with their surrounding community and involving them in meaningful and responsible service.

Lunch Buddies
The Lunch Buddies program was established primarily to bring adult volunteers into youth's lives. In addition to providing adult role models, the objective of this program is to create an environment where, through one-on-one interaction with adult volunteers, students will receive guidance, have the opportunity to learn more about a wider variety of life experiences and develop friendships.

Get involved.
The Lunch Buddies Program is an excellent opportunity for adults in all walks of life to make a difference in the life of a youth. In order for the program to be successful, the adult volunteer is asked to commit at lease two hours per month to visiting the child at the school. Many volunteers take a more active role and meet the child more often. The volunteers then spend time having lunch with their buddy and can opt to spend more time mentoring the student.

Community Involvement

Lunch Buddies
Students participating in the Lunch Buddies program are matched according to interests and then meet to share lunch and activities together. The program's objective is to promote the development of personal relationships between members of different generations. Volunteers meet their student partner at the school where they share a hot lunch.

Volunteer Drivers for Seniors
Faith in Action is an interfaith program that matches volunteer drivers with Troup County senior citizens who, for financial, medical, or personal reasons, have no other means of transportation to medical appointments. Volunteers will use their own vehicles and choose their own schedules for service. Turnaround time averages approximately two hours.

This volunteer-based program is an alternative to costly and inconvenient public or group transportation for seniors. Faith in Action provides an opportunity for caring volunteers to share themselves through not only their time and service but also through their companionship.

Housing Authority Tutoring
Want to Tutor Young Kids? The LaGrange Housing Authority is in desperate need for tutors for their elementary age after school program. Monday thru Friday from 2:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Pick your own days to be there. For more inforamtion contact Pat at 882-6416 or come by the Community Service office.

Reading to Students
If you are interested in reading to elementary school students Long Cane Elementary School is starting a new program. Go and read to students at anytime. You make the schedule! Background check, small application and orientation required. Need info call Lea at 883-7920 or stop by the Community Service Office.

Pen Pals at Twin Cedars
Want to make a difference in child's life? If so, become a Pen Pal to a Twin Cedar's Resident. There will be an informational meeting with Kim Bond on Tuesday November 18 in the Student Center RM 101 at 11:15 a.m.

Thinking of You Cards
Want to Brighten Someone's Day? Every 3rd week of the month stop by the Student Center TV Room and make a Thinking of You Card for someone at the Hospice.
