Lunch Buddies Students participating in the Lunch Buddies program are matched according to interests and then meet to share lunch and activities together. The program's objective is to promote the development of personal relationships between members of different generations. Volunteers meet their student partner at the school where they share a hot lunch. Afterwards, they can: tour the school, visit in the media center, visit outside, work in the school's Computer lab, visit the school library, or participate in other activities. Each lunch buddies pair decides how often they will meet together; "lunch buddies" usually meet once a week to twice a month. Lunch buddies is available to all faculty, staff, and students. Faculty and Staff can choose from LaGrange High, and Gardner Newman Middle School. Students will be matched up with youth from Gardner Newman Middle school. Also, if you are interested in doing lunch buddies and need transportation I will provide it for you. If you need more information you can call Elizabeth at 8778.
Volunteer Drivers for Seniors Faith in Action is an interfaith program that matches volunteer drivers with Troup County senior citizens who, for financial, medical, or personal reasons, have no other means of transportation to medical appointments. Volunteers will use their own vehicles and choose their own schedules for service. Turnaround time averages approximately two hours.
This volunteer-based program is an alternative to costly and inconvenient public or group transportation for seniors. Faith in Action provides an opportunity for caring volunteers to share themselves through not only their time and service but also through their companionship.
If you would like to volunteer with this vital community program or would like more information, please call Beth Daniel at 845-3076. Faith in Action is a project of Care Link, a division of West Georgia Health System, located at the Coleman Health Center in LaGrange.
