Panthers face University of the South in home opener Nov. 21, 2006
The LaGrange College women's basketball team hosts the University of the South (Sewanee) Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Mariotti Gym. It is the home opener for the Panthers, who are 1-1. The Panthers defeated Millsaps College 42-40 and lost 91-48 to Mississippi College at the Millsaps Women's Basketball Classic last weekend in Jackson, Miss.
University of the South Notes: Sewanee is 2-0 after a pair of come-from-behind wins at the Country Hearth/Lee's Classic in Danville, Ky last weekend. The Tigers beat Thomas More 59-54 after trailing by 13 at halftime. They trailed by eight against Spalding before rallying for a 64-56 win. Senior Dani Pettay led the Tigers against Thomas More with 23 points. Pettay and freshman Steffi Renninger each had 12 points against Spalding. Pettay is 150 points short of reaching 1,000 in her career. Sewanee is 3-0 all-time against the Panthers. The Tigers defeated the Panthers 67-48 at Sewanee last season. Sewanee won 78-53 in 2004 at Mariotti Gym. Head coach Dickie McCarthy is 44-35 in his fourth season at the University of the South. He is a University of Georgia graduate and a native of near by West Point, Ga.
