Panthers stop skid with road win over Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The LaGrange College women's basketball team stopped a two-game losing skid with a 72-57 GSAC win over Huntingdon College on Wednesday at the Delchamps Student Center. The Panthers improved to 9-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play. Huntingdon dropped to 5-13 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

The Panthers never trailed in the game. They opened the game with a 12-2 run. Connie Russell completed a three-point play and had a steal to spark the Panthers. LaTessa Taylor scored off of Russell's steal and added a jumper during the run.

Huntingdon cut the deficit to five, 17-12, with seven minutes left in the half. The Panthers answered with a 17-3 spurt to go up 34-15 with three minutes remaining. Lindsey Moore had eight of her 11 first half points during this span. The Panthers led 34-20 at halftime.

In the second half, Huntingdon crept within seven, 52-45, with 8:44 left in the game. A block on the defensive end by Russell and back-to-back jumpers by Jennifer Penston ignited a 16-2 run by the Panthers. Taylor finished the run with a jumper and a layup for a commanding 66-47 lead with three minutes remaining. The 72-57 final score was as close as the Lady Hawks got the rest of the way.

Taylor led all scorers with 15 points and led the Panthers with seven rebounds. Moore finished with 14 points, while Kellee Scandrett had 10. Lori Bonds led Huntingdon with 14 points. The Panther bench outscored Huntingdon's 30-11 in the game.

The Panthers host Agnes Scott on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a GSAC game. Agnes Scott defeated the Panthers 50-46 earlier in the season.
