Panthers coast past Wesleyan in record-setting win Feb. 13, 2008
LaGrange College cruised to a 69-11 win over Wesleyan College in a GSAC game at Mariotti Gym on Wednesday. The Panthers improved to 9-13 overall and 4-6 in conference play with their second win in their last three games. The winless Pioneers fell to 0-17 overall and 0-10 in conference play.
The Panthers completed a sweep of the season series and upped their winning streak to 10 games against the Pioneers. The Panthers won the first meeting 102-28 in Macon on Jan. 17.
Wednesday, the Panthers set a team record for fewest points allowed in a game. The previous mark was set on Feb. 5, 2003 against Agnes Scott in a 70-17 win. The Panthers also set a new record for fewest points allowed in a half, as the Pioneers scored only three in the second half. The Panthers also tied a team record set against Johnson Bible this season for fewest field goals in a game allowed, five.
Jessica Barba and Jessica Boler led the Panthers. Barba had a game-high 18 points, while Boler finished with 17. Cameren Farr added 10 points. Barba and Melissa Mora shared team honors with nine rebounds each. Jeleesa Fuller and Andrea Moses had four points each for the Pioneers. Moses had a game-high 10 rebounds in the game.
The Panthers shot 44.4 percent from the floor in the game. They did not attempt a 3-point shot in the game. The Pioneers shot 12.8 percent in the game. The Pioneers made only 1-of-20 shots in the second half.
The Panthers never trailed in the game. Moses tied the game 2-2 for the Pioneers in the opening minutes of the game. The Panthers scored 18 unanswered points over a seven minute span to open up a 20-2 lead. The Panthers led 33-8 at halftime.
In the second half, the Wesleyan's only basket came with 14:25 left in the game as Crystal Church hit a jumper. She hit one of two free throws for the Pioneers' final point with 13:44 left in the game. The Panthers scored the final 24 points in the game.
The Panthers go on the road to face GSAC leader Piedmont on Saturday. Piedmont beat the Panthers 85-69 on Jan. 26 at Mariotti Gym.
