Panthers cruise past Wesleyan for second straight win Jan. 17, 2008
MACON, Ga. - LaGrange College cruised to an easy 102-28 win over Wesleyan College in a GSAC game Thursday at Porter Gym. The Panthers improved to 7-8 overall with their second straight win and evened their conference record at 2-2.
The 102 points by the Panthers tied for the second highest in school history, also set against Wesleyan during the 2003-04 season. The 74-point margin of victory was the largest in school history, eclipsing the 65-point win over Agnes Scott during the 2002-03 season.
Jessica Boler and Jessica Barba combined for 50 points for LaGrange. Boler had a game-high double-double of a season-high 27 points and 10 rebounds. She scored 23 of her points in the second half. Barba scored 15 of her 23 points in the first half. Boler was 12-for-16 from the floor and Barba 11-for-12 from the floor.
Melissa Mora added a season-high 15 points and seven assists for the Panthers. Jennifer Penston added 12 points and Cameren Farr 10. Farr tied Mora for game honors with seven assists. The Panthers set a single-game record with 34 assists. The Panthers had a season-low 10 turnovers.
The Panthers never trailed in the game. Davida Dwyer, who led the Pioneers (0-8, 0-2 GSAC) with 10 points, tied the game briefly at 2-2. The Panthers pulled away quickly with a 12-0 run for a 20-6 lead. Another 14-0 spurt increased the Panthers' lead to 24, 36-12 with 6:23 left in the half. The Panthers led 51-20 at halftime.
In the second half, the Panthers held the Pioneers to 2-for-23 shooting from the floor. The Panthers ran off 26 straight unanswered points over an 11-minute span in the half. Boler had 15 of the points during this stretch.
The Panthers host Maryville in a GSAC game Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
