Panthers rout Wesleyan for second straight win

MACON, Ga. – The LaGrange College women's basketball team had four players score in double figures and routed Wesleyan College 84-41 on Wednesday at Porter Gym. The Panthers improved to 7-6 overall and evened their GSAC record at 2-2. The Pioneers are winless at 0-8 and 0-4 in conference play.

The Panthers got off to a slow start in the first half.  They went on a commanding 15-2 run over a five minute span using a full court press that resulted in easy baskets. The run gave the Panthers a 23-10 lead with 9:25 remaining in the first half. The Panthers extended their lead to 18 before the Pioneers cut the Panthers' lead to 40-29 at halftime.

Senior LaTessa Taylor had an all-around first half performance for the Panthers. She had six points, four rebounds, three assists and a school-record nine steals in just 10 minutes of playing time.  Valeree Williams led the Panthers with 10 points and five rebounds in just nine minutes of play in the half, while Ebonie Johnson added eight points and three steals.

The Panthers put the game out of reach at the outset of the second half. The Panthers went on a 32-3 run in the first 10 minutes to open up a 72-42 lead.

Johnson led the Panthers with 13 points. Taylor and Lindsey Moore finished with 12 points each. Heather Power added 11 points for the Panthers.

The game was the second game in a row the Panthers won by more than 30 points. They defeated Fisk 79-42 at home Sunday. The Panthers have won eight straight over the Pioneers and lead the series 14-2.

The Panthers host Rust College on Saturday at 2 p.m.  The Panthers defeated the Lady Bearcats 80-71 in their only meeting last year in Holly Springs, Miss.
