Panthers fall to Spelman in GSAC game

ATLANTA, Ga. – Host Spelman College rallied in the second half to beat LaGrange College 62-53 on Wednesday in a GSAC game. The loss stopped the Panthers' three-game winning streak and dropped their season record to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play. It was the Jaguars' first GSAC win of the season as they improved to 3-8 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

 

LaTessa Taylor led the Panthers with 12 points. Ebonie Johnson and Shannah Mabry had eight points each. Spelman's Ashley Covington led all scorers with 25 points, while Ariel Simpson added 15. Lisa-Marie Pierre had a game-high 13 rebounds.

 

The Panthers led 38-31 at halftime. Both teams shot the ball well in the half. The Panthers hit 57.7 percent of their shots and the Jaguars shot 54.2 percent.

 

The second half was a different story for both teams. The Panthers made only 4-of-28 shots, while the Jaguars hit 6-of-24 shots. Spelman went to the free throw line 30 times in the half, making 18. The Panthers were 7-of-12 from the free throw line in the second half.

 

The Panthers host Piedmont on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a GSAC game.
