Rhodes tops Panthers 61-49

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes College handed LaGrange College its third straight loss, downing the Panthers 61-49 at Mallory Gym on Sunday. The Panthers dropped to 3-5 with the loss, while the Lynx improved to 6-2.

Jessica Barba tied for game honors with 17 points for the Panthers. Jessica Boler added nine points. Boler tied Cameren Farr for team honors with eight rebounds. Ashley Farrell led Rhodes with a double-double of 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Rhodes held the Panthers to 28.1 percent shooting from the field in the game. Rhodes shot 39.6 percent from the field, but hit 20-of-24 free throws in the game. The Lynx held a slight 34-31 rebounding edge over the Panthers.

LaGrange took a couple of short leads at the outset of the game. The game was tied on four occasions in the first 10 minutes. Jennifer Penston's jumper tied the game for the last time at 11-11.

Rhodes took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Brittany Solar. Solar's trey started an 11-2 run to put the Lynx up 22-13. The Lynx built a 16-point lead and led 35-22 at halftime.

The Panthers could not make a run at the deficit in the second half. Rhodes led by as many as 20 points in the second half. Ashley DeFreitas' basket provided the 61-49 final score and it was as close as the Panthers got in the second half.

The Panthers are off until Dec. 30. They host the University of Dallas in a 2 p.m. game.
