Piedmont ends Panthers' three-game win streak Feb. 3, 2007
DEMOREST, Ga. Host Piedmont College ended LaGrange College's three-game winning streak with a 71-55 win Saturday. The Panthers fell to 11-9 overall and 4-5 in GSAC play. Piedmont improved to 13-6 overall and remained tied for first in the GSAC with a 7-1 record.
Valeree Williams led the Panthers with 13 points and eight rebounds. LaTessa Taylor added 12 points and Lindsey Moore 11. Piedmont had four players in double figures, led by Niki Sosebee's game-high double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. Lisa Jennings and Yetta Bailey had 13 points each and Beth Adcock 12.
The Panthers led the first nine minutes of the first half. The Panthers led by as many as five on three occasions, the last on a jumper by Taylor for a 14-9 lead with 11:13 left in the half.
A jumper by Bailey started a 10-0 run by Piedmont. Stephanie Rainwater tied the game at 14 with a three-pointer. Bailey put the Lady Lions ahead to stay with a jumper and another trey from Rainwater finished the run. The Panthers trailed 29-24 at halftime.
Kellee Scandrett's basket cut Piedmont's lead to 31-28 early in the second half. The Lady Lions built their largest lead of the game, 57-39, with 9:14 remaining.
The Panthers scored 13 unanswered points over a three-minute span to get back into the game. Connie Russell's two free throws got the Panthers started. The Panthers forced turnovers on five straight possessions by the Lady Lions. Taylor scored off an assist from Moore to make it 57-52 with 6:09 left.
Piedmont scored eight of the next nine points to build their lead back to double-figures. The Lady Lions continued to build on their lead for the 71-55 final.
The Panthers host Wesleyan in a GSAC game Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m.
