Panthers top Huntingdon on Senior Night
Feb. 14, 2007

LaGrange College celebrated Senior Night with an 83-68 win over Huntingdon College at Mariotti Gym on Wednesday. The Panthers closed out their home schedule with the win and improved to 14-10 overall and evened their GSAC record at 6-6.

Seniors Lindsey Moore, Kay Kay Pannell, Kellee Scandrett and LaTessa Taylor were honored in ceremonies after the game. Moore and Taylor added their names to the Panthers' record book.

Moore was a perfect 12-for-12 at the free throw line to tie a single game record. She finished with 14 points. Taylor tied for game honors with teammate Valeree Williams with 15 points. She also had seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. The steals gave Taylor 71 for the year, breaking Scandrett's record of 69 set last season.

In the first half, Huntingdon (8-16, 4-7 GSAC) used a 16-5 run to take a 24-19 lead with 6:35 left in the half. The Panthers led 14-9 before the Lady Hawks went on the run over a five minute span. The Panthers responded by outscoring the Lady Hawks 18-7 the rest of the half for a 37-31 lead. Moore tied the game at 25 with a pair of free throws. She added two more free throws to put the Panthers ahead to stay, 29-27.

Huntingdon trailed 44-39 with less than 15 minutes remaining in the game after a jumper by Dusti Doss. The Lady Hawks never got closer.

The Panthers built an insurmountable lead over the next 10 minutes. Heather Power's three-pointer opened up a 62-47 lead for the Panthers. Jennifer Penston hit back-to-back jumpers to give the Panthers their largest lead, 77-52, with 5:29 left.

Huntingdon scored the next 12 points to cut the Panthers' lead to 77-64. But it was too little too late. Taylor hit a jumper and sank a pair of free throws sandwiched around two more free throws by Moore to put the game out of reach.

Huntingdon had five players in double figures. Ashley Parkins led the Lady Hawks with 12 points. Patsy Slater had a double-double of 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.

The Panthers swept the season series from Huntingdon for the first time since the 2001-02 season. The Panthers also clinched the fourth seed in the GSAC standings. They will host one of three play-in games on Tuesday, Feb. 20. Tip-off is 7 p.m. The Panthers close out the regular season Friday at Judson College.

The Panthers will host the GSAC Championship Tournament on Feb. 23-24.
