Panthers cruise to easy win over Fisk

The LaGrange College women's team cruised to an easy 79-42 win Sunday over visiting Fisk University at Mariotti Gymnasium. The win stopped a five-game losing streak for the Panthers, now 6-6. The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 1-8.

Panther head coach Kelly Britsky played everyone on her 16-player roster. The Panthers had 13 different players score in the game. Valeree Williams led the Panthers with 14 points, while Lindsey Moore added 12. The Panther reserves scored 50 points in the game. Fisk, playing with only six players, was led by Stephanie Lewis' game-high 16 points.

The Panthers never trailed in the game. They led 8-1 five minutes into the game. Candice Mullis' jumper gave the Panthers their first double-digit lead, 18-8. The lead continued to increase, as the Panthers led by 20, 39-19, at halftime. The Panthers forced 23 turnovers by the Lady Bulldogs in the first half. Fisk finished the game with 40 turnovers. It was the most turnovers by a Panther opponent this season.

The Panthers used three straight Fisk turnovers to score nine straight points to open the second half. The Lady Bulldogs never got closer than 21 points the rest of the way. The Panthers' largest lead of 37 points was the 79-42 final.

The Panthers enjoyed a 45-33 rebounding edge. LaTessa Taylor led the Panthers with eight rebounds, while Moore had seven. Zola Baker-Coleman had a game-high 11 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Panthers return to GSAC action Wednesday at Wesleyan College beginning at 6 p.m. The Panthers return home Jan. 13 against Rust College.
