Panthers' losing streak at three after loss to Brenau

Brenau University pulled away late in the game for a 91-81 win over LaGrange College on Saturday at Mariotti Gym. The loss was the third straight for the Panthers, now 5-4. The Tigers evened their record at 6-6.

Brenau got a game-high 26 points from Vicky Wilson. Christine Hollander added 19 points, while Sarah Ledford had a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Senior Lindsey Moore and sophomore Heather Powers had career-highs for the Panthers in the loss. Moore led the Panthers with 22 points, while Powers added 20. Ebonie Johnson added 11 points. LaTessa Taylor (pictured), tied Ledford for game honors with 11 rebounds.

The Panthers led by six in the early going of the first half. Brenau took a 28-26 lead on a layup by Miyoshi Bradford. The Panthers answered with their biggest run of the game. Moore tied the game with a put back of a missed shot to start a 17-6 run by the Panthers.

The Panthers led by nine after a layup by Valeree Williams. They matched that lead when Powers hit a three-pointer for a 43-34 lead with 4:06 remaining in the half.

Brenau rallied to get back into the game. Trailing 47-44 with less than a minute remaining, the Tigers scored the last six points of the half to go up 50-47.

The Panthers never regained the lead in the second half. Hollander's basket off a turnover put Brenau up 75-64 with 6:43 left. The Panthers never got closer than six points the rest of the way. Moore's basket cut the Tigers lead to 79-73 with less than five minutes remaining.

Brenau had its largest lead of 13 points twice in the final minute. Powers hit a three-pointer at the buzzer for the 91-81 final margin.

The Panthers break for the holidays until Jan. 3. They go on the road against GSAC foe Agnes Scott. The Panthers host Maryville on Jan. 6.
