LaGrange women host Huntingdon in GSAC first round game

GAME FACTS
MatchupThe LaGrange College women's basketball team faces Huntingdon College in the first round of the GSAC Championship Tournament at Mariotti Gym on Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m. The Panthers (14-11, 6-6 GSAC) are seeded fourth and the Lady Hawks (8-17, 4-8 GSAC) are seeded fifth. The winner advances to the semifinals Friday against top seeded Piedmont (16-7, 10-2 GSAC) at 5:30 p.m. Both the semifinals and finals of the tournament will be at Mariotti Gym.

THE COACHES

LaGrange's Kelly Britsky is in her eighth season as the Panthers' women's head coach. She has a career record of 84-125. Britsky guided the Panthers to a 17-11 record during the 2001-2002 season that included a trip to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Tournament.
Britsky played volleyball and softball for the Panthers while earning a degree in History in 1993 and a Masters in Education in 1999. She stayed on as an assistant coach in 1994 when the Panther softball team won a national championship. She left LaGrange for three years to coach basketball, softball, and track at Perry High School in Perry, Ga. before returning in 1997.

Buzz Phillips is now the full-time head coach for Huntingdon after serving as interim head coach since late November. He also serves as the school's athletics director. Phillips took over the women's program during each of the past two seasons after resignations by the head coaches.

ABOUT THE LADY HAWKS
Huntingdon closed out the regular season with a 73-54 loss to Spelman on the road Sunday. Paige Huff had 14 points to lead the Lady Hawks. Huntingdon features GSAC Freshman of the Year Lori Bonds, who leads the team in scoring, averaging 11 points per game. Sophomore Dusti Doss was selected for the GSAC All-Conference team. Doss is averaging 9.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS
The Panthers closed out the regular season with a 80-67 road loss to Judson last Friday. Valeree Williams led the Panthers with 13 points. She was named to the GSAC All-Freshman team. Seniors Lindsey Moore and LaTessa Taylor were selected to the GSAC All-Conference team. Taylor had a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds against Judson. She leads the Panthers in scoring and rebounding, averaging 10.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.

LAST MEETING VS. HUNTINGDON
The Panthers won 83-68 at Mariotti Gym on Feb. 14. Taylor and Williams had 15 points each in the win. Taylor had three steals to set a single season school record of 71 steals. Moore tied a school record with 12 free throws. She was a perfect 12-for-12 at the free throw line. Moore finished with 14 points.
