LaGrange women host Wesleyan in GSAC game

GAME FACTS The LaGrange College women's basketball team (11-9, 4-5 GSAC) hosts Wesleyan College in a GSAC game at Mariotti Gym on Wednesday. The Panthers are coming off a 71-55 loss to GSAC leader Piedmont on Saturday in Demorest. Wesleyan (0-16, 0-8 GSAC) lost 75-42 to Atlanta Christian in Macon on Monday.

THE COACHES: LaGrange's Kelly Britsky is in her eighth season as the Panthers' women's head coach. She has a career record of 81-123. Britsky guided the Panthers to a 17-11 record during the 2001-2002 season that included a trip to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Tournament. Britsky played volleyball and softball for the Panthers while earning a degree in History in 1993 and a Masters in Education in 1999. She stayed on as an assistant coach in 1994 when the Panther softball team won a national championship. She left LaGrange for three years to coach basketball, softball, and track at Perry High School in Perry, Ga. before returning in 1997.
Wesleyan's Melissa Kelly is 0-10 as interim coach of the Pioneers. Kelly is the school's athletic director. She took over from Sara Wilson, who stepped down because of health issues.
ABOUT THE PIONEERS Despite being winless, the Pioneers have three of the top five scorers in the GSAC. Carisa Mitchell leads the team and the conference, averaging 16.6 points per game. She also leads the conference in playing time, averaging almost 37 minutes a game. Erica Darden is fourth in the GSAC averaging 13.9 points per game and leads the conference in rebounding with 9.9 rebounds per game. Davida Dwyer is fifth in the conference in scoring, averaging 12.4 points per game. Dwyer is third in the conference in rebounds, averaging 9.6 per game. She had a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds against Atlanta Christian. Darden added 18 points, while Mitchell did not play. The Pioneers have lost 62 straight games dating back to the 2003-04 season.
ABOUT THE PANTHERS Host Piedmont ended the Panthers' three-game winning streak with a 71-55 win Saturday. Valeree Williams led the Panthers with 13 points and eight rebounds. LaTessa Taylor added 12 points and Lindsey Moore 11. Piedmont had four players in double figures, led by Niki Sosebee's game-high double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. Lisa Jennings and Yetta Bailey had 13 points each and Beth Adcock 12. Taylor leads the Panthers in scoring and rebounding. She averages 11.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Taylor is eighth in the GSAC in both categories. Moore is fourth in the GSAC in field goal percentage at .500, while Williams is fifth at .496. Moore is also fifth in the conference in free throw percentage at .733. Taylor is third in the GSAC in steals, averaging 3.1 per game.
RECORDS WATCH Moore, Kellee Scandrett and Taylor are 1-2-3 in career steals. Moore leads with 130, Scandrett has 127 and Taylor 121. Moore is third in career points with 802 and fourth in career rebounds with 386.
