Oglethorpe edges Panthers

Oglethorpe edged LaGrange College 3-2 in Atlanta on Tuesday night. The loss dropped the Panthers to 1-5 on the season. Oglethorpe improved to 3-5, while stopping a five-match losing streak to the Panthers.

Only two points separated the two teams by the end of the match. The Stormy Petrels won the first game 30-19. The Panthers came back to win the second game by an identical 30-19 score. Oglethorpe won the third game 30-28, but the Panthers forced a deciding fifth game with a 30-27 fourth game win. The Stormy Petrels edged the Panthers 15-12 in the final game.

 

Senior Megan Moore had a career night for the Panthers. She recorded her first triple-double of her career. Moore had 11 kills, 18 assists and 12 digs. It was the first triple-double by a Panther since Kristina Rosenow accomplished the feat against Brewton Parker in 2003.

 

Kayla Black recorded a double-double. She had a team-high 21 assists to go with 12 digs. Kiley Kirkpatrick had a team-high 13 kills and a .375 hitting percentage. Niki Metcalf and Sara Newland each had eight kills. Metcalf also had a team-high 22 digs.

 

The Panthers play in the Centre College Invitational this weekend. The Panthers open tournament play against host Centre and Gettysburg on Saturday.
