Panthers even season record with sweep of visiting Judson

LaGrange College evened its season record with a 3-0 sweep of Judson College at the CEB Gym on Friday in a non-conference match. The Panthers are now 9-9 on the season.

The Panthers set a season-high with 52 kills in the match. Five Panthers had six or more kills, with Britny Greensage leading the way with 11. Lisa Burgee just missed a double-double, finishing with nine kills and 14 digs. The Panthers finished the match with a .273 hitting percentage, their second-highest of the season.

Grace Burgess had a team-high 22 digs, a season-high f or a Panther in a three-game match. Ashley Vaughan had a team-high 20 assists, while playing in just one game.

The Panthers took the first game 30-22. Judson led only once, 4-3, before the Panthers took four straight points to take the lead for good. The Panthers built a 14-7 lead and the Eagles never got closer than three points the rest of the way. Leading 23-20, the Panthers scored seven of the last nine points to take the game.

The Panthers jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the second game. Judson answered by scoring nine of the next 10 points to tie the game at 12-12. The Eagles never took the lead, tying the game seven different times, the last at 21-21. Jessica Boler's kill gave the Panthers a 22-21 lead. They built a 26-22 lead and held off the Eagles for the 30-28 win. Connie Russell scored the last two points for the Panthers off kills.

In the third and final game, the Panthers broke open a close game. Judson closed to within three, 15-12, off a kill by Kayla Belser. The Panthers responded with seven unanswered points to open up a 22-12 lead. Burgee and Greensage combined for five kills during the run. The Panthers had their biggest lead at 27-14. The Eagles never got closer than nine points the rest of the way. Sara Newland put down two kills and Greensage closed out the game and the match with a kill for the 30-19 final. The Panthers had a .452 hitting percentage in the final game.

The Panthers are on the road at Atlanta Christian on Oct. 18 in a non-conference match.
