Panthers go 1-2 during GSAC volleyball weekend

The LaGrange College volleyball team swept Agnes Scott College 3-0 on Sunday to finish 1-2 during the first GSAC Volleyball Weekend of the season. The Panthers (5-10 overall, 3-2 GSAC) lost 3-2 to Piedmont and 3-0 to Maryville on Saturday.

The Panthers defeated Agnes Scott by scores of 30-19, 30-23 and 30-18. The Panthers got their third straight double-double of the weekend from senior Niki Metcalf against the Scotties. She had a team-high 10 kills to go with 13 digs. Kiley Kirkpatrick added eight kills and total blocks each. Megan Moore led with 15 assists and Kayla Black 13. Sara Newland had a team-high 15 digs, while Grace Burgess tied Metcalf with 13.

In the loss to Piedmont, the Panthers won the first game 33-31. Piedmont tied the match with a 30-26 win in the second game. The Panthers edged the Lady Lions 30-28 to go up 2-1. Piedmont forced a deciding fifth game with a 30-18 in game four. The Panthers led 12-10 in the final game, only to have the Lady Lions score five of the final six points to win the match.

Metcalf had 11 kills and tied for team honors with 23 digs. She was one of three Panthers to record a double-double. Moore had 22 assists and 19 digs. She missed by one kill of a triple-double. Black also had 22 assists and 15 digs. Kirkpatrick led the team with 13 kills. Newland had 23 digs to tie Metcalf.

Against Maryville, Metcalf had team-highs of 12 kills and 15 digs. Moore led the team with 15 assists. Burgess tied Metcalf with 15 digs. Kirkpatrick had seven kills and eight total blocks.

The Panthers host Reinhardt on Wednesday, Oct. 4 beginning at 7 p.m.
