Panthers bounce Emory & Henry Oct. 6, 2006
The LaGrange College volleyball team bounced Emory & Henry 3-1 at the CEB Gym on Friday. The Panthers took the match by scores of 30-20, 27-30, 31-29 and 30-19. The Panthers improved to 6-11 with the non-conference win, while the Wasps dropped to 6-11.
Megan Moore came within a service ace of making the school's first quadruple-double. The senior outside hitter recorded her second triple-double of the season. She had 11 kills, a team-high 22 assists, 19 digs and a team-high nine service aces.
Moore's nine service aces helped the Panthers tie their season high of 17 set against Judson on Sept. 8. The Panthers also had a season-high 57 kills.
Fellow senior Niki Metcalf continued her streak of double-doubles. Metcalf finished with 12 kills and 13 digs for her fifth straight double-double. Kayla Black had her second straight double-double. Black had 19 assists and 11 digs. Kiley Kirkpatrick had a team-high 13 kills, while Grace Burgess had a team-high 20 digs.
In the first game, the Panthers broke open a close game. Leading 10-8, the Panthers went on an 8-2 run to take control of the game. The Panthers continued to pull away. The 30-20 final score tied the largest lead for the Panthers.
Emory & Henry came back in the second game to tie the match. The Wasps overcame an early lead by the Panthers. They had their largest lead, 27-21, late in the game. The Panthers got within two, 29-27, after a service ace from Britny Greenspage. The Wasps held on, getting the game-winner for the 30-27 win.
The third game was close through out. The Panthers led 22-20 after a kill from Moore. The Wasps came back to build a 26-23 lead. Kirkpatrick's kill tied the game at 27. The Wasps were serving for the game, but Metcalf tied the game with a kill. Kirkpatrick capped the comeback with a service ace to clinch the 31-29 win.
In the fourth game, the Panthers were in control from the start. Metcalf's kill put the Panthers up 5-4 early in the game and they never trailed again. The Wasps got no closer than five points the rest of the way. Leading 24-19, the Panthers finished the game with a 6-0 run to clinch the match.
The Panthers host Judson College at the CEB Gym on Tuesday, Oct. 10 beginning at 6 p.m.
