Panthers lose to Brenau, Covenant in tri-match

GAINESVILLE, Ga. – LaGrange College dropped two matches to Covenant College and Brenau University during a tri-match Saturday at Brenau University. The Panthers lost both matches by 3-1 scores. The non-conference losses left the Panthers 10-11 on the season.

The Panthers won the first game against Covenant 30-20. Covenant swept the final three games by scores of 30-27, 30-22 and 30-23 to take the match. In the Brenau match, the Panthers lost the first game 30-26. They came back with a 30-22 win in the second game to tie the match. Brenau took the final two games by scores of 30-28 and 30-17 to win the match.

Britney Greensage had a career and team season-high 14 kills against Covenant. She finished the match with a .310 hitting percentage, the second-highest by a Panther this season. Sara Newland also set career and team-season bests with 29 digs. Kayla Black had a double-double with a team-high 17 assists and 11 digs.

Lisa Burgee had 10 kills to lead the Panthers against Brenau. Megan Waycaster had a double-double of a team-high 35 assists and 11 digs. Grace Burgess and Heather Tidwell each had 20 digs.

The Panthers close out the regular season with three straight home matches, beginning with GSAC foe Spelman on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
