Panthers have five earn GSAC awards

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Seniors Grace Burgess and Lisa Burgee, juniors Sarah Newland and Jennifer Putnam along with freshman Hannah Brooks received Great South Athletic Conference awards in ceremonies at the conference championship tournament Friday.

Burgess was named the GSAC Libero of the Year and to the all-conference team. Newland was also named to the all-conference team, while Brooks was named to the all-freshman team. Newland, Burgee and Putnam earned conference all-academic honors. Burgee has been all-academic for three years, while Newland and Putnam earned their second all-academic awards

 

Burgess led the team and the GSAC with 466 digs and a 4.91 digs per set average. She finished her career as LaGrange's all-time digs leader with 1,557 and a 4.09 digs per set career average. Burgess was second on the team with 28 service aces. Newland led the Panthers' with 177 kills. She added 21 assists, 11 service aces, 201 digs and 31 total blocks. Brooks had 91 kills in 18 matches, while adding 22 total blocks.
