Panther women open season against Agnes Scott

The women opened LaGrange College's 2007-08 season at the Spook Splash meet hosted by Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga. on Nov. 1.

Amanda Olsen set three personal best times. She was second in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 5:00.25, fifth in the 50 backstroke at :37.83 and sixth in the 100 freestyle at 1:09.50. Olsen also placed fourth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:26.13.

Tiffany Pitzer had fourth place finishes in both the 50 and 100 breaststroke events. Shae Healan was eighth in the 50 freestyle.

The Panthers will be at the University of the South for a meet on Nov. 7-8.

Panther swimmers have scrimmage with third-ranked Darton

The Panthers' swim team had a pre-season scrimmage meet against Darton Junior College, the third-ranked team in NJCAA.

Freshmen Casey Dugas and Josh Ledbetter had strong showings against the 30-member Cavalier squad.

Dugas took fourth place in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 34.69, sixth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 29.02, fourth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:07.28 and in a new event for her, the 100 individual medley, swam a time of 1:22.10.

Ledbetter took seventh place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.20, ninth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:07.28.  He swam in two new events, the 50 breaststroke (37.57) and the 100 individual medley (1:16.97).

The women open the season with a meet against Agnes Scott and Brenau in Decatur Nov. 1.

Olsen breaks school record at Appalachian championships

Sophomore Amanda Olsen broke her own school record in the 200-yard backstroke at the Appalachian Conference Swimming and Diving Championships.
Olsen finished third in the event with  a time of 2:25.51. She also had two 10th place finishes. Olsen had a season best time of 1:09.68 in the 100-yard backstroke.
Olsen was named to the Appalachian Swimming and Diving Conference 2008 All-Scholastic team.


Panthers take on Mars Hill and Warren Wilson in home meet

Sophomore Amanda Olsen paced LaGrange College in a tri-meet at the Hudson Natatorium on Friday.
Olsen had a second place and two third place finishes. She got second in the 100-yard freestyle. Olsen was third in both the 500 freestyle and the 50 yard backstroke.


Olsen paces Panthers in two weekend meets

The Panther women's swim team traveled to North Carolina for two meets last weekend. The Panthers took on Mars Hill and St. Andrews, two NCAA Division II schools, on Friday. On Saturday, the Panthers faced St. Andrews once again along with Warren Wilson.Sophomore Amanda Olsen took first place Saturday in the 200-yard backstroke. Olsen won the event in a time of 2:25.94, an improvement of three seconds over her best time last season. She also had a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle event. Senior Jenna Lanza had a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle and a fifth-place finish in the 50 freestyle. On Sunday, Olsen took first place in the 200 freestyle and second in the 100 backstroke. She set a season personal best in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.85. Lanza had two close races, finishing third in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events.The Panthers will take a break until after the holidays. They will face Darton, Mars Hill and Agnes Scott in Albany, Ga. on Jan. 12

Panther women compete against Brenau

The LaGrange College women's swim team competed against Brenau University at the Hudson Natatorium. Sophomore Amanda Olsen led the Panthers. Olsen had first place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke and the 500 freestyle. She also had a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle.Jenna Lanza had two second place finishes. Lanza was runner-up in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. She was a tenth of a second behind Brenau's Morgan Smith in the 100 freestyle event. In the 50 freestyle event she was a second behind Brenau's Sarah Fell.The Panthers are on the road against Mars Hill and St. Andrews on Dec. 1 and Warren Wilson on Dec. 2.
