Panthers open season at Coca-Cola Classic

The LaGrange College softball team opened its 2007 season at the Coca-Classic in Pineville, La. The Panthers went 1-3 in the tournament hosted by Louisiana College.

The Panthers lost 5-1 to four-time NCAA Division III champion Central (Iowa), 10-1 to the host Lady Wildcats and 7-3 to Hardin-Simmons (Texas). All three schools participated in the NCAA Division III national tournament last season. The Panthers blanked Millsaps 8-0 in five innings for their first win of the season.

Junior Megan Henry scattered six hits, walked two and struck out one in the win over Millsaps. Senior Dicie Holland drove in three runs without benefit of a hit. Senior Kim Woodard and sophomore Kristi Underwood each had two RBIs. Woodard scored three runs and had four stolen bases. Sophomore Amanda Jones had two hits and an RBI.

The Panthers play Millsaps on Saturday in Jackson, Miss. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. CST.
