Panthers sweep Agnes Scott

The women's softball team opened up conference play by sweeping Agnes Scott, 10-0 and 18-0 in a doubleheader. The Panthers improve to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the GSAC. The Scotties fell to 0-2; 0-2 in GSAC play.
In the first game, the Panthers would score 10 runs in the first five innings to stop the game short due to a run rule. Amanda Daniel, pictured (2-2) was credited with the win and pitched a perfect game through four innings with five strikeouts. Hayley Hanson would close out the game with a shutout inning, allowing one hit.
The Panthers started to find their swing in the third, as Kim Woodard would was struck by a pitch. Chloe Turnipseed would follow with a triple down the right field line as Woodard would score from first. Then Kristi Underwood hit a ferocious shot to deep left center for a double that nearly sailed over the fence, hitting the top of it as Turnipseed would score. Jennifer Knight would single to bring in Underwood to make the score 4-0.
In the fourth, the Panthers put the game away with a six-run inning that would highlight a three-run homer by Knight that would give the Panthers all it needed thanks to a combined shutout effort by Daniel and Hanson.
The Panthers were led by Woodard and Knight with two hits apiece. Woodard also had three runs while Knight had four RBI's.
In the second game, The Panthers kept their momentum going as they would pound in 16 runs in the first two innings, which proved to be all they would need. Haleigh Kellar hit a triple down the right field line to score two runs early in the first inning as the Panthers would score 10 first-inning runs. Leah Flowers would highlight a six-run second inning as she hit her first-career grand-slam to put the game out of reach.
Pitchers Megan Henry and Katie Hearn would combine for the Panthers' third shutout of the season, allowing only two hits in the second game. 
The Panthers pounded 22 hits as Woodard, Kellee Scandrett, pictured, and Kellar would have three hits each. Woodard would also score three runs in the second game while Flowers would lead the Panthers with four RBI's. Underwood would also bring in three runs off two hits for the Panthers.
Woodard moves up to third all-time in career runs scored with 114, tied with former Panther great Liana Thorton and passing former USCAA All-American Shannon Phillips. Hanson passed Paula Davis for fifth-place in career strikeouts (110).
The Panthers will play again on Thursday, March 8th as they will travel to Macon, Ga. to Wesleyan College in a GSAC doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
