Knight's home run helps Panthers split with Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. – Jennifer Knight's home run in the first game lifted LaGrange to a 2-1 win in the first game of a GSAC doubleheader against Piedmont. The host Lady Lions salvaged a split of the doubleheader with a 3-0 win in the second game.

The split left the Panthers 7-3 in GSAC play and 15-13 overall. The Lady Lions are 16-9 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Panthers close out the GSAC portion of their schedule with a doubleheader at Maryville on Saturday.

Piedmont took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of the first game. Lindsay Drevlow's single scored Marissa Eastman, who had led off the inning with a walk.

The Panthers answered in the top of the fourth inning. Valeree Williams led off with a single. Knight followed with her team-leading fourth home run of the season off of Drevlow for a 2-1 lead.

Megan Henry (5-2) made the lead stand up. She pitched her second complete game of the season, scattering five hits. Henry walked one and struck out one.

In the second game, Piedmont's B.J. Cofer blanked the Panthers on six hits. Cofer did not walk a batter and struck out four. Leah Flowers and Holly Hazelwood each had two hits for the Panthers. Flowers had a double included in hers.

Amanda Daniel (9-10) took the loss for the Panthers. She pitched six innings, allowing the three runs, nine hits, walked one and struck out two. It was Daniel's team-leading 12th complete game of the year.

The Panthers did not commit an error in the doubleheader. Catcher Kayla Yeargin threw out four of five possible base stealers.
