Brenau completes sweep of Panthers with 10-inning win

Brenau pushed broke a scoreless tie in the 10th inning and held on for a 3-2 win over LaGrange on Sunday at the LaGrange College Softball Complex. The win enabled Brenau (14-1) to complete a sweep of the doubleheader over the Panthers (3-3). The Golden Tigers took the first game 5-1.

Brook Borders' two-out two-strike triple off Amanda Daniel (3-3) in the 10th drove in the game's first two runs. Marisa Litster followed with a single to drive in Borders to up Brenau's lead to 3-0.

LaGrange came back in its half of the inning. Jennifer Knight's double to the left center field fence drove in Kristi Underwood from second to make it 3-1. Knight moved over to third on a fly out and scored on Kayla Yeargin's two-out base hit to center to cut the Tigers' lead to 3-2. Litster, pitching her fourth inning of relief, retired Kristen Woodard for the final out of the game.

Daniel went the entire 10 innings for the Panthers for her sixth straight complete game of the season. She scattered 11 hits, struck out six and walked one. Brenau was only 3-for-14 in RBI situations against Daniel.

Missy Herren started the game for Brenau. She pitched six scoreless innings, allowing only two hits. Herren struck out eight and walked one. Litster got her second win of the day. She allowed the two runs, four hits and struck out two.

LaGrange finished with six hits in the game. Katie Hein and Holly Hazelwood had two hits each for the Panthers.

In the first game, Brenau stopped the Panthers behind Litster's complete game. She allowed an unearned run, struck out seven and did not walk a batter. Daniel surrendered 10 hits and four earned runs in the loss. She struck out two and walked one.

The Panthers host Huntingdon on Wednesday in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. The Panthers will play in the Millsaps Invitational in Ridgeland, Miss. next weekend.
