Panthers swept for second straight day

Reinhardt handed LaGrange its second straight doubleheader sweep Sunday at the LaGrange College Softball Complex. The Lady Eagles (23-11) swept the Panthers (12-12) by scores of 6-3 and 10-1. The Panthers have lost four straight games after winning four straight.

The Panthers fell behind 2-0 in the first game. They tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth inning. Leah Flowers reached on an error with one out. Katie Hein reached on fielder's choice to put runners on first and second. Both runners moved up on a ground out by Holly Hazelwood. Valeree Williams followed with a double to right center to drive in both runners.

Reinhardt came back two runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh to go up 6-2. The Panthers got a run in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Hazelwood beat out an infield hit. Williams hit her second double of the game to move Hazelwood over to third. Hazelwood scored on Jennifer Knight's RBI single for the 6-3 final score.

Williams finished the game with three hits to lead the Panthers, who had eight hits. Hazelwood and Knight each had two hits.

Kristen Woodard (1-1) pitched into the sixth and took the loss for the Panthers. She allowed four runs, three earned, while walking one and striking out one. Danielle LaDuron pitched two innings in her first appearance of the season. She allowed two runs; both earned; walked one and struck out one.

In the second game, the Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Hazelwood walked with one out and stole second and moved over to third on Williams' base hit. Knight drove in Hazelwood with hit through the left side for a 1-0 lead. The Lady Eagles tied the game 1-1 in the top of the second inning.

It remained tied until the fourth inning. Reinhardt erupted for seven runs in the inning. They were aided by three errors by the Panthers that led to four unearned runs. The Lady Eagles added two runs in the fifth to end the game on the mercy rule.

Amanda Daniel (8-9) took the loss for the Panthers. She gave up eight runs, four earned in four innings. LaDuron pitched the fifth inning and allowed two runs on three hits.

The Panthers had six hits in the second game. Erica Robinson was 2-for-2 in the game for the Panthers.

The Panthers travel to Atlanta on Tuesday to face Emory in a doubleheader.
