Panthers sweep Agnes Scott to even GSAC record

LaGrange evened its GSAC record with a sweep of visiting Agnes Scott at the LaGrange College Softball Complex on Tuesday. The Panthers (10-8, 2-2 GSAC) won both games of the doubleheader in five innings by scores of 8-0.

Amanda Daniel and Megan Henry combined to limit the Scotties to just three hits in the doubleheader. Daniel (7-6) pitched a complete game in the first game and pitched the first inning of the second game. Daniel gave up two hits, walked two and struck out eight in the first game. Henry (2-2) pitched the final four innings of the second game. She allowed only one hit, walked three and struck out seven.

Jennifer Knight was 4-for-5 in the doubleheader with six RBIs. Allison Gordon was a perfect 4-for-4 in the second game. The Panthers had eight hits in the first game and 13 in the second.

The Panthers got all the runs Daniel needed in the first inning of the first game. With one out, the Panthers reeled off five straight hits to take a 5-0 lead. Haleigh Kellar had a two-run double in the inning.

LaGrange extended its lead to 6-0 in the second inning. Kayla Yeargin led off the inning with a walk. She came around to score on Knight's base hit through the left side.

The Panthers finished their scoring in the third inning. Gordon reached on a walk and later scored on a passed ball. Pinch-runner Whitley James scored the Panthers' final run on Knight's sacrifice fly to make it 8-0.

In the second game, LaGrange jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Panthers had four straight hits to start the inning. Knight had a two-run single in the inning.

The Panthers built their lead to 5-0 in the fourth inning. James led off the inning with a single and later scored on a double play for the first run of the inning. Knight drove in her third run of the game with a two-out single.

The Panthers ended the game in the bottom of the fifth. Danielle LaDuron and James had back-to-back hits with one out. Gordon followed with a double to left to score both runners. She came in to score when the throw from the outfield got away to end the game on the mercy rule.

The Panthers host Wesleyan in a GSAC doubleheader Thursday. The first game begins at 5 p.m.
