Huntingdon sweeps Panthers in opening GSAC doubleheader

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Nicole Hill pitched two complete games to lead Huntingdon to a sweep of LaGrange in the GSAC doubleheader for both teams Friday. The Lady Hawks (7-17, 2-0 GSAC) won by scores of 2-1 and 4-1. The losses dropped the Panthers to 8-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The Panthers got the first run in both games. In the first game, Valeree Williams and Katie Hein led off the third inning with back-to-back singles. Both runners moved up on a ground out. Williams scored as Jennifer Knight reached on an infield hit to put the Panthers up 1-0.

Huntingdon came back with two runs in their half of the inning off starter and loser Amanda Daniel. Daniel pitched six innings, allowing the two runs and five hits. Hill made the runs stand up for the Lady Hawks. She scattered six hits over seven innings, walking two and striking out nine. Hein had three of the Panthers' six hits.

Williams led off the second game for the Panthers with her first home run of the season for a quick 1-0 lead. The Lady Hawks tied the game in the second inning and scored three runs in the fourth to go up 4-1. Megan Henry (1-2) took the loss for the Panthers. She allowed four runs, only two earned in six innings. Hill held the Panthers to five hits in the second game to finish her second straight complete game.

The Panthers host Agnes Scott on Tuesday in a GSAC doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
