Season kicks off against Oglethorpe/Atlanta Christian this weekend

The LaGrange College men's soccer team opens its 2006 season on Friday, Sept. 1 at Oglethorpe University in Atlatna with six returning starters. 

Leading the way is senior defender Zak Turner (Dallas, Ga./Paulding County), who was voted the team's best defensive player and All-GSAC for the third straight year.  Also coming back is junior forward Kojo Cole-Kesse (Norcross, Ga./Dunwoody) who currently sits third all-time in career goals (19) and fourth in points (44).  Fellow junior Patrick Kaney (Decatur, Ga./Decatur) also ranks third in points (47), goals (19) and fourth in assists with nine. He earned second-team All-GSAC honors.

Oglethorpe holds a 12-2-1 advantage in the series, with a nine-game winning streak against the Panthers. The Stormy Petrels won 7-0 in LaGrange last season. 

LaGrange will play at Atlanta Christian College in East Point, Ga.  the following day at 1 p.m. The Panthers hold an 11-2-1 advantage against the Chargers, winning the previous four meetings. The Panthers won 4-0 in LaGrange last season.

The Panthers open their home portion of the schedule Sept. 10 against Emory and Henry College at 1:30 p.m. Great South Athletic Conference play begins with a home match against Huntingdon College on Sept. 12.
