LaGrange men's soccer opens practice

The LaGrange College soccer team started the 2006 preseason with two practices Monday. The Panthers return 7 players from last year's 7-10 squad and welcome seven newcomers. Jeff Geeter is beginning his 17th season as the Panthers' head coach. The Panthers will have two seniors this season. Defender Zak Turner (Dallas, Ga./Paulding County) was voted the team's best defensive player and All-GSAC for the third straight year as well as being named to the GSAC All-Academic Team for the second straight year. Midfielder Cole Zimmerman (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) started all 17 games while scoring four points off two goals.  Also returning is junior forward Kojo Cole-Kesse (Norcross, Ga./Dunwoody) who currently sits third all-time in career goals (19) and fourth in points (44).  He was voted the team's Co-Offensive player of the year.  Fellow junior Patrick Kaney (Decatur, Ga./Decatur) also ranks third in points (47), goals (19) and fourth in assists with nine. He earned second-team All-GSAC honors.  The Panthers open the season Sept. 1 in Atlanta, Ga. agianst Oglethorpe University.  Their first home contest will be Sept. 10 as they will host Emory and Henry at 1:30 p.m.
