Huntingdon edges Panthers in GSAC opener Sept. 18, 2007
Huntingdon College kept LaGrange College winless with a 2-1 win Tuesday night at Panther Field. It was the GSAC opener for both teams. The Hawks improved to 3-4 overall, while the Panthers fell to 0-5.
The Panthers enjoyed an early lead in the game. Rhett Fordham took a pass from Mohamed Sesay and beat Hawk goalkeeper Jesse Kehler for a 1-0 lead 18 minutes into the game.
It remained 1-0 until less than two minutes left in the first half. Jack Vibbert tied the game at 1-1 with an assist from Cody Lange.
The Hawks came out in the second half and put pressure on the Panthers. Panther goalkeeper Ben Rollins made two saves in the first two minutes of the half to keep the game tied. The Hawks missed another opportunity when Andrew McNamara's penalty kick sailed wide.
Huntingdon got the game winner in the 69th minute. Andrew Smith-Parker took a through ball from Chris Saba and put into the net for a 2-1 lead. The Panthers stepped up their attack the rest of the game but could not get the equalizer.
The Panthers face Piedmont on the road Thursday beginning at 7:30 p.m.
